"Dreaming through the Five Senses"Dreaming through the Five Senses
Color pencil on paper 31cm x 46cm 2019 |
In my drawing, I intended to show a cluster of my emotions triggered by the five senses. Each face in this piece represents one or two senses. I referred to Antoine Stevens and Steve Locatelli’s work, specifically their piece Ellyotspaces. They created a certain expression or mood in their work through the manipulation of lines, colors, and textures using the principles of movement and repetition. I used shadows and highlights to produce line-like wrinkles in the faces to depict emotion. |
The intent of this work is to depict the food culture in America in a negative way. I was inspired by Pop Art and specifically the works of Andy Warhol. My work and Warhol’s are similar as the use of bright colors, repetition of patterns, and depiction of popular culture are obvious. The hash outlines helped to create a greasy-like effect, conveying the unhealthy tendencies of food culture today. The face in the center is a reflection of America and how the food industry affects us. |

"My Dreams for the Environment"
My Dreams for the Environment
Watercolor on paper 62cm x 46cm 2020 |
My dream for a clean planet is shown through the contrast of colors, textures, and images. I worked with watercolors to achieve a dream-like affect throughout my painting, using elongated brush strokes and transparent washes. All of which are aspects of Luqman Reza Mulyono’s artistic technique. The organic shapes are contrasted with manmade objects, representing a harsh reality of human invasion over our planet. |
This piece takes after Surrealism art and the work of Josephine Wall. This piece is a reflection of lucid dreams and mimics the work of Wall’s piece, Playing Bubbles, centralizing a figure surrounded by different mystical objects. The randomized appearance of mystical objects alludes to the idea that the face in the center is surrounded by her dreams. The objects depicted draw from themes commonly associated with dreams which helps the viewer make the association between my piece, and dreaming. |
